You might not think about it, but audio can be even more important than video, and bad audio can make or break a story! I talk the yeses and nos of audio equipment, how to make sound effects your friend, and the importance of music choice and personable narration.

I can hear my audio engineer Mike yelling at me over the phone now…
“Audio is half of your video! Turn your levels up!!”
In reality, Mike would never yell at me. He’s too nice of a guy. And in reality, audio may effectively be more than 50% of our final video.
If you have iPhone footage and great audio, you can make your piece feel professional. But if you shoot with $20,000 camera and have crappy audio, nothing screams “amateur hour” more.
Audio can completely make or break a story!
When it comes to telling a story, it is important to know the “dos and dont’s” of audio equipment. (If you tell a story but no one could hear it, did you even tell a story?? )
In this episode, I discuss how to make sound effects your friend, and the importance of music choice and personable narration. And, don’t forget characters-- audio can even be used to further characterize the heros in each story.
We also chat about forms of storytelling that have nothing to do with video. Especially now, podcasts, audio books, and other new audio storytelling methods are gaining popularity.
Peace and Love,
Rain
