I was scared, but I had
a story to tell...

In 2012, I set out with a camera and a backpack to travel the world and tell the story of an underground fitness movement that was getting young people off the streets, out of gangs, and off of drugs, as it rose in popularity and became a sport.

No one had heard of me and no one had heard of the sport, so I had no support. I had no crew, cheap equipment, and no budget. But I traveled to over 15 countries building relationships with the community, and focused on finding the true heart of their story.

After five years, we found our ideal audience and won "Best of the Fest" at the Hip Hop Film Festival in New York City and received global distribution through Red Bull Media.

Now, I take what I learned the hard way through 15 years of making documentaries and use it to help business creatives and marketers leverage the power of storytelling to maximize the impact on their audiences and inspire them to take action, without spending a lot of time or money.

Making Raise Up: The World is Our Gym completely changed my life and the way I look at documentary filmmaking. I started with an idea and a dream, spent the last $1000 in my checking account on a plane ticket to Riga, Latvia, and launched a crowdfunding campaign to travel around the world capturing the stories of calisthenics.

Years later, I'm still in awe when someone sends me a direct message with a picture of them watching it on a plane thanks to my distribution deal with RedBull TV.

There are two things that made me
the storyteller i am today:
structure and consistency.

I knew I had stories worth telling. I had something to say and I was pretty sure I could help people with my stories. But there was a problem:
I didn't know WHICH people.
Once I established which people I wanted to help with my stories, I had to figure out where they were and how I could reach them.
First, I needed to understand what made a great story. Then, I needed to know what platforms to use to tell those stories and how I could use them to inspire action among my audience. And finally, I had to make a consistent practice of telling stories.
Now, I’ve written over 150 articles for my weekly column at Chapelboro.com, been published by national outlets like Huffington Post, and released my first book in 2021. But most importantly, I’ve been able to help people become the compelling storytellers they thought they could be.
